How many people work at Foodshare?

More than 50 (and growing).

How many volunteers do you have?

In 2015 we had 6,219 people volunteer with us, providing time equivalent to 27 full-time employees.

How much food do you distribute?

11.5 million meals worth last year.

Where does that food come from?

The vast majority of it is donated by the food industry, both the wholesale and retail sides. Because that food is donated and we only have to be concerned with logistical expenses, we are able to provide several meals worth of food for every dollar that is donated to us.

Where does the food go?

We distribute food to 300 partner programs, including food pantries, community kitchens, and homeless shelters. We also distribute perishable foods directly to clients through our Mobile Foodshare trucks, which stop at dozens of sites across Hartford and Tolland counties.

Does Foodshare pay attention to nutrition in the food they distribute?

Yes. More than one-third of the food we distribute is fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, and dairy. And that number is growing every year.

Does Foodshare address the overall issue of hunger?

Yes, we have programs that connect our hungry neighbors with available resources that improve their quality of life. We also advocate for policies that address poverty and other basic needs.
