Now in it's 7th year, The Food Industry Convoy of Caring was originally created as a means of recognizing Foodshare supporters. Making the 21 mile trek from Rocky Hill, CT to Foodshare's distribution center in Bloomfield, drivers haul tractor trailor loads of donated food in a large convoy showing their committment to our mission of ending hunger in greater Hartford. Thanks to all of this year's participants, an estimated 100,000 pounds of food was donated during this event.
The food industry is crucial to Foodshare's mission of ending hunger. They account for 79%-82% of our total food donations which then gets distributed to communities throughout Hartford and Tolland Counties. If Foodshare had to purchase product at retail cost, we wouldn't be able to feed half the population that we do. Thanks to a strong partnership with those companies listed below, we have been able to accommodate the ever-growing need in our region.
Among our 2009 supporters are:
Baronet Coffee
Pepsi Bottling Group
SYSCO of CT
Bozzuto's
Price Chopper Supermarkets
Sardilli Produce & Dairy
C&S Wholesaler's
Quality Sales, Inc.
Trader Joe's
