Summer Food Service Program |

SCHOOL VACATION SHOULD BE A GOOD THINGFor many children who depend on school breakfast and lunch programs, no school means no food. Thanks to the Summer Food Service Program, funded by the USDA, there may be a place to go for help. During the months of July and August, many Summer Food Service Programs open their doors across the region to ensure low-income children up to age 18 have access to nutritious meals while school is out. Children with disabilities are eligible through age 21. DOES MY TOWN OFFER A SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM?Not all towns offer this program, but Foodshare is busy building partnerships throughout the region to help change that. Many Greater Hartford sites – including those in Enfield and New Britain – were established with help from a Foodshare Hunger Action Team. |
