Foodshare is committed to collaborating with community organizations, policy makers, and the broader community to build effective solutions to end hunger.Together with our partners, we raise awareness about hunger and advocate for policies and programs that support the food security of our community. Creating a hunger-free community requires many solutions working together, including critical government programs. In our non-partisan work, Foodshare meets with elected officials and encourages community action on specific issues to ensure that we are doing our best to support our neighbors who struggle with hunger. You can lend your voice to our efforts by signing up for Foodshare Action Alerts. Federal ProgramsAs a member of Feeding America, the national network of regional food banks, Foodshare coordinates with others across the country to help keep core federal nutrition programs strong. Without these federal programs in place, many more people would experience food insecurity and hunger. The U.S. Farm Bill is the major food and farm legislation that gets revisited or reauthorized by Congress every 5 years. The Farm Bill includes several nutrition programs that play an important role in ensuring that our low-income neighbors have access to food. View some of the programs +
The Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act helps children get the nutrition they need to learn and grow, including meals and snacks in school, child care, after school, and summer settings. View some of the programs +
State ProgramsIn coordination with Connecticut Food Bank and End Hunger Connecticut!, we are working with partners across the state to build a statewide coalition to end hunger in Connecticut. In September 2017, our three organizations facilitated the first statewide anti-hunger conference called Hungry For Change, which was attended by over 100 people. We will host the second annual Hungry For Change conference in September 2018. To get involved, contact our Director of Policy and Program Impact, Miranda Muro, at 860-856-4345.
